Getting Started

CES monitors metrics of services running on the cloud, helping users fully understand the resource usages on the cloud platform and take measures to deal with possible alarm problems to avoid service losses.

ECSs are the basis of cloud service running. Therefore, tiny changes of ECEs performance may cause service flapping or even shutdowns. Therefore, CES provides ECSs with basic monitoring and advanced monitoring of two different monitoring granularities. For details about the differences between the two types of monitoring, see Table 1.

At present, ECS advanced monitoring supports only the cn-north-1 region. The support for other regions is in preparations.

Table 1 Differences between ECS basic monitoring and advanced monitoring

Monitoring Type

Monitoring Interval

Application Scenario

Basic Monitoring

4 minutes

Ten metrics such as CPU usage, memory usage, disk usage, and disk read rate

Routine monitoring

Automatic monitoring

Advanced Monitoring

10 seconds

Ten metrics such as CPU usage, memory usage, and disk usage

Service peak hours

You need to install the Agent first.

For other cloud services, CES provides detailed and comprehensive metrics based on the attribute of each cloud service. For example, CES monitors upstream bandwidth, downstream bandwidth, upstream traffic, and downstream traffic for VPC. For details, see Querying Metrics of Other Cloud Services.
